What Meridian is

Meridian is a personal finance application that connects to a bank account through Plaid, imports transactions, classifies them, and produces a monthly close: income, spending, savings rate, and a reconciliation against account balances. It is operated privately as an invitation-only beta, and is not offered to the public.

There is no public registration. Exactly one owner account exists, fixed by the deployment's configuration, and there is no mechanism in the software to create a second.

What Meridian is not

  • Not financial, tax or investment advice. The figures are arithmetic over your own transactions, and the written summaries are prose generated over those figures. Nothing here is a recommendation, and no part of it is produced by a licensed advisor.
  • Not a bank, and not a payment service. Meridian reads data. It cannot move money, initiate a payment, or change anything at your bank.
  • Not a system of record.Your bank's own statements remain authoritative. Meridian's reconciliation exists precisely because imported data can be incomplete, delayed, or revised by the institution.
  • Not audited or certified. See the scope note above.

Accuracy

Transaction data comes from your financial institutions through Plaid. It can arrive late, arrive as a pending entry that is later revised, be retracted, or be missing entirely during an institution outage. Meridian keeps the bank's record immutable and stores every correction separately, so a re-import cannot silently overwrite a judgement you made — but it cannot make incomplete source data complete.

Each month is given a trust level, and the reconciliation shows any difference between the change Meridian can explain and the change your balances actually show. Where that difference is not near zero, the numbers should not be relied on until it is understood.

Availability

There is no uptime commitment. The application depends on third-party services — Plaid, MongoDB Atlas, Vercel, Railway, OpenAI and Resend — any of which may be unavailable. When email delivery is unavailable, sign-in is not possible; recovery codes exist for exactly that case and should be stored somewhere reachable without this application.

Your responsibilities

  • Keep your password to yourself and use it nowhere else.
  • Protect the email account that receives verification codes with its own multi-factor authentication. The second factor here is only as strong as that mailbox.
  • Store your recovery codes somewhere you can reach without this application.
  • Comply with your bank's and Plaid's terms when connecting an account. Connect only accounts you own.

Liability

Meridian is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. It is operated by one individual as a private beta; there is no commercial relationship, no fee, and no service level. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Ending use

You can disconnect every bank connection and delete all data, including the account itself, from within the application at any time. Doing so removes the Plaid Item, deletes the stored access token, and deletes the financial records. See the privacy policy for what survives and why.
